Introduction

This book will tell you all you need to know about rabbits: how to feed, clean, handle and understand your rabbit. You will learn what foods a rabbit should and shouldn't eat, how to make your back yard or your home into a perfect place for your rabbit and how to create a balanced and happy life for your rabbit. It also includes some instructions on how to grow your own rabbit food. The book includes a fictional story about Radar and Jupiter and "Their Capilano Back Yard Adventures." A large part of having a rabbit is training it to understand and trust you. This book talks about my experiences with my two rabbits, how they see me, how I interact with them and how I train them to trust me. You can have a good relationship with your rabbit. It just takes time and effort, and with this book you will have the steps to achieve that relationship.

Feeding Radar and Jupiter

Rabbits are vegetarians. Like all vegetarians they are fussy. As you will see below there is more to feeding a rabbit than to feeding a cat or a dog.

Daily Staples

A rabbit's most important daily staples are hay, pellets, fresh grass or clover and fresh water. Rabbits should always have fresh hay because it's the main part of their diet. Timothy hay, not alfalfa, is the safest and best. It can be found in pet food stores, such as Korna Natural Pet Foods, in small bags or you can get it from a farm in bales (Timothy hay is just dried Timothy grass.) Give your rabbit as much hay as it wants. Timothy pellets are made from Timothy hay which is broken down into pellets with important nutrients added to keep your rabbit healthy. When you shop for rabbit pellets, make sure that they have a maximum of 14 percent protein and that they are pure pellets, no dried fruits or seed additives.
